National Tutoring Programme

There have been two recent reviews of the National Tutoring Programme implementation.

Background

The National Tutoring Programme (NTP) was established to help pupils catch up on learning lost during the pandemic, but the focus is now on the attainment gap more generally.

There are 3 different ways of providing tuition:

  1. Academic mentors specially-trained tutors you can request through the DfE's delivery partner, Cognition Education
  2. Tuition partners tutors recruited by external tutoring organisations quality-assured by the DfE and matched to the school
  3. School-led tutoring existing members of a school’s staff or tutors hired directly by the school. This approach is the most popular.

Information in this section will focus on summaries of key findings and suggestions of Best Practice.
