Capability Workshop 2026 / 2027 – Prefilled form

What is the capability process?

The capability process is a structured and supportive framework designed to help managers address and improve employee performance in a fair, consistent, and transparent way. It ensures that performance concerns are clearly identified, explored, and documented, while giving employees the opportunity, guidance, and time they need to meet required standards. Beginning with informal conversations and targeted support, and progressing to more formal stages only where necessary, the process promotes open communication, provides defined review periods, and maintains a strong focus on development at every step.

To support you in meeting these duties, we invite you to attend our Capability Workshop for Managers.  This session will ensure you fully understand the latest legal expectations and how to respond professionally and sensitively to any issues arising in your school.  The workshop has been designed to provide a clear and practical overview of how to manage capability effectively within a team. It explores what performance management really means, how to identify whether capability is the true issue, and the importance of early, supportive intervention.

You’ll be guided through key processes such as using the Growing Great People framework, developing effective Improvement Support Plans, and understanding when to move from informal support to formal procedures.

Through case examples, activities, and policy insight, the session aims to build confidence in recognising underperformance, offering constructive support, and ensuring fair, consistent practice. By the end, you will be better equipped to help individuals improve, strengthen team performance, and create a positive, accountable workplace culture.

This interactive session is designed specifically for those with responsibility for managing / supporting performance and capability in schools.
