Effective Management of an Investigation.

Creating a positive, productive, and safe school environment depends on the ability of leaders and managers to address concerns, under‑performance, and conflict in a fair, consistent, and timely way. In schools, where the focus must remain on teaching, learning, and the wellbeing of children, it is essential that staff grievances, disciplinary issues, and workplace challenges are managed sensitively and confidently.

The Investigations Workshop is designed to equip school managers with the skills and knowledge needed to conduct effective investigations, underpinned by the disciplinary and grievance policies and procedures. Throughout the session, participants will explore practical strategies for meeting with staff, gathering and evaluating evidence, leading witness interviews, and handling difficult conversations with professionalism and empathy. On the course the following areas will be covered:

• Understanding the purpose and process of an investigation
• How to conduct difficult conversations with employees
• Carrying out impartial investigations and documenting findings effectively
• Writing and impartial investigations report
• How to present investigation reports to a panel

By strengthening your understanding of school-based policies, employment law principles, and approaches to fair decision‑making, this course will help you navigate complex situations while maintaining transparency, natural justice, and trust within your teams.

This interactive session is designed specifically for those with management responsibility and who have or are likely to be asked to complete an investigation.
