npq leading literacy

NPQLL is for teachers who have, or are aspiring to have, responsibilities for leading literacy across a school, year group, key stage or phase.  NPQLL participants develop the knowledge, skills and expertise to lead effective approaches to developing literacy and supporting children’s reading and writing at all stages. This will include leading and developing others to improve children’s literacy.

The course is usually completed over three terms and comprises seminars, online learning modules and some practical elements.  Throughout the programme you will participate in formative assessment tasks which will support you in demonstrating 90% engagement, which together with one summative assessment, you will need in order to pass.  Eligibility is subject to evidencing support from your Headteacher to release you to undertake the course and related work.

The programme:

  • develops skills to successfully develop others and lead a whole school literature strategy
  • supports you to encourage colleagues to develop literacy across the curriculum without unnecessary workload
  • underpins your understanding of core principles behind language, reading and writing development
  • provides practical tools and guidance to lead on literacy
