This session, led by Trust Executive Director Ed May, is designed for Governors new to governance, will encourage attendees to reflect on the essential characteristics of an effective Governor, how Governors can provide the right level of support and challenge, as well as offering some practical steps in order for them to fulfil their role effectively.

Objectives

Governors will:

• Reaffirm our Trust’s vision and values
• Understand the principles by which our Governors govern
• Understand the role of a Governor as a ‘guardian of standards’
• Gain an appreciation of what makes an effective Governor
• Understand ways in which Governors can successfully support and challenge the schools leaders
• Develop some practical steps to help fulfil the role effectively
